Since the arena battles had degenerated into idiocy, the dragon decided to restart everything.

  1. He reversed time.
  2. He ate all the contestants (or their remains) and had new ones apply.
  3. Same as #2 but Lava Man burns through his innards and the dragon dies. The Lava Man becomes a national hero.
