The snake-beast tore chunks of stone from out of the arena flooring as it
raised its head up. Dust was everywhere and a whole gaggle of folk in the
audience grabbed violently for their asthma inhalers.
Meanwhile Fred edged back, the tail of the viper coming at him, Fred dropped to his right knee, scissoring the tip of the tail with his sword. Fred rolled left, pulling his knee up after him, and got to his feet. The snake wheeled towards him, fangs dripping with poison. Fred dodged left, wheeled right, and snapped his right leg out in a double kick to the snake's coils just below its head. With the snake coughing in confusion Fred thrust his sword down into its midsection, blood and acid spurting up and out! Fred lurched back, disoriented by the steaming pellets upon his metal armor. He began to shake and heave, trying to clear himself from the dealy backfire! The snake, partially recovered, opened its maw, unhinging its first set of jaw muscles, ready to swallow Fred whole!
