One moment Fred and Astra had been running towards the whoop of joy that
had indicated that Alura and Velus had found the Scepter. The next, still
wearing rags and with Astra still six months pregnant, they found
themselves in another dimension. Not that they knew that that was where
they were, only that it was somewhere very strange.
They found themselves in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies. Huge cellophane flowers of yellow and green grew on the banks, towering over their heads. The river flowed under a bridge by a fountain where rocking horse people ate marshmallow pies. Everyone smiled as they drifted past the flowers that grew so incredibly high. Newspaper taxis appeared on the shore, waiting to take them away.
