Scott's train of thought is interrupted by nonsensical drunken ramblings.
Annoyed, he looks up to see an elderly man who is completely bald but for
an extremely long salt-and-pepper beard. He wears nothing but rags and is
carrying a makeshift wooden stick. Unknown to Scott, this was a ninetyeight-year-old version of a man once known as Lord Frederigo de Honaire. He still referred to himself as Lord Fred even though he had been stripped of the title long ago after failing to kill the dragon. He became an alcoholic not long after, and was too far gone to realise he had somehow been transported to a library within a staircase tower. Scott, rather than being moved by this poor remnant of an once proud figure, suddenly got it in his head to mug him instead. He got up, wrenched the makeshift walking stick from Fred's unresisting grasp, and promptly set about beating him unconscious. Frail as Fred was, that didn't take too long. Scott rummaged through the pathetic crumpled heap's poor excuse for clothes. All he found was a few strange gold coins and a flagon of some unidentifiable, but obviously alcoholic, liquid.
