The Plot Thickens!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 58964

“Daddy never understood me!” Fred blundered out, much to the astonishment of all those gathered in the luxuriously appointed chambers of the governor.

Astra cringed and merely shook her head.

The phlegmatic governor, however, seemed insouciant yet mildly amused. He arched an inquisitive eyebrow at the Lord of Suffex and bade him to continue, a contemptuous smirk playing across his face. He suppressed a lighthearted chuckle. Any fool could recognize the fact that the armor this man wore identified him as much more than a mere ‘spy’ from that uncouth realm of barbarians, Gelda. No, this armor was forged in one of the finest smithies that still existed in all of Havnheim, rivaling even what the dwarves in these, their waning days, could produce. This armor could withstand even the heat of dragonfire - to some extent, that is. And the insignia emblazoned across his chest, The D'Honaire coat of arms - two golden griffons endorsed above an argent fess - only cemented the governor’s suspicions. But why had this man, who apparently was either a nobleman or a knight of very high standing in Suffex, claimed to have been a Geldan spy!? Gilder was thoroughly intrigued.

Our dear, beloved Fred, meanwhile, was still at a loss. This wasn’t supposed to be happening. None of this. His entire life, it seemed, had been a whirlwind of chaos and despair. And it had all led to this. He was a simple man...

There had been time, in his youth, when had been taken - or rather dragged - on numerous hunting excursions to the Duchy of Stonewall that lay just below the Southern Caves. There he had beheld shepherds tending their flocks in the fair green rolling hills below the ominous Shrekken Mountains, idly passing their days away under the warm summer sun as enormous, billowy white clouds sailed lazily on by - high aloft in the great impenetrable blue sea of the sky. Oh, how he had envied them - mere peasants!

Fred was a hopeless Romantic, and there was nothing that could be done for him. He turned back to the governor, his lower lip quivering uncontrollably. “I’M NOT A GELDAN SPY!” he confessed, tears flowing from his eyes unabashedly.

Again, Gilder smiled. “First a meal.”

  1. You heard him, folks. He IS the governor, afterall.
