"I'll say when we eat, Weston," Fred said firmly. "We saved a village.
Just think of what they might offer us." Billy considered this and
thankfully remained silent. Until they reached the outskirts of the
village. Then he complained of the lack of pretty native girls. He was
expecting to be swarmed by them, being a hero and all. Instead, they were greeted by a tall venerable-looking man who introduced himself as Aimonn, elder of the village of D'Mrahst. He gestured them to follow him to a large hut in the centre of the village. It was fire- damaged, but the natives were working like bees to repair it. Aimonn turned to them expectently. Before Fred called introduce them, Billy blurted out, "Where are all the girls?" This earned him an angry glare from Fred but a hearty laugh from the elder. "All the women were evacuated before the beast attacked. It will take time for word to get to them that they can return." Billy looked despondent, gaving Fred a chance to apologise for Billy's behaviour and finally tell Aimonn who they were. "Ah, so you are Onebar and Threestripe." Billy perked up at this. "Onebar and Threestripe? What kind of dumbass names are they?" Aimonn looked perplexed. "Dumbass? I do not understand." He pointed at their uniforms, at the three stripes on Billy's arm and the silver bar on Fred's lapels. "That's what the names were referring to." "Right...Are you saying we're mentioned in prophesies, or something?" Billy said skeptically. "But of course, where else would such odd names appear?" Aimonn said. "I'll spare you the actual text. I'm sure Three - Billy, would prefer that." Fred nodded his thanks, then asked something that had suddenly came into his mind. "This 'beast' Billy killed. It said humans are a scourge. Why is that?" "Dragons, as they are properly called, are not the most even-tempered of creatures. Also, we're not based on any element. Unlike the other races we share the world with." "Element?" Fred said. "That dragon also mentioned four elements." "That's correct. Air, Water, Earth and Fire. All of the True races are based in some way on these elements." "Like that water-lady we encountered on the way here?" Billy asked. "Water-lady?" The elder pondered. "Ah. You mean the Guardian of the River." "Yeah, she almost shish-kebobed us, but decided to turn us into popsicles instead." "He means she almost ran us both through with her spear and then froze us in ice," Fred hurriedly explained. "Ah, I see. She's is a being known as an undine, based, as I am sure you can tell, on water. One of the four immortal races that were said to have been created when the world first came into being."
