Timequake, Phase 2

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 58552

Frederica's memories still weren't totally in order, but she knew one thing--she was a warrior. And she was very skilled with the sword. The sword was a part of her life. The particular sword she saw before her was very beautiful, made out of metal that was iridescent like a dragonfly's wings, with odd curving patterns etched into its side. It wasn't the kind of sword that she was used to using. It was a much more subtle weapon. Still, she felt drawn to it. She pulled the sword further out of its sheath and saw it catching the light. "I have never heard of the war you served in," said Frederica, "but I hope that the strength you had in it will still serve you well."

"Why are you talking to a sword?" said Frederica's daughter.

"Why are you talking to me when you aren't even born yet?" snapped Frederica.

"Never mind. Put that sword down at once. I can't read its past fully, but I can tell that it is a weapon of ill omen. It's crying out for blood."

Frederica exaimend the weapon more closely. It was so beautiful. How could so beautiful a weapon be evil? Still, ever since she'd picked it up, she had felt more angry... Reluctantly, she began to slip the sword back into its sheath.

Then, the building began to shake. Frederica's daughter gasped in horror. Frederica pulled out her sword as something ripped the tower out of its foundations, causing them to fall to the ground. The sky was filled by a gigantic man, with pale skin that looked almost like smoke, wearing a green hood that shadowed its face. "You!" he said. "The seed of Happyman dies here! So swears the Spectre!" Frederica stared up mutely. This being's voice resonated like thunder. He seemed almost like a god.

"The Spectre? How interesting," said Frederica's daughter. If she was afraid, she didn't show it. "You must have been sent forward in time from before you went insane. Which means Hal Jordan is still part of you. Why are you, of all people, trying to pass judgment on me, Hal Jordan, murderer of the Green Lantern Corps? The blood on your hands is showing."

"I may have commited sins in my lifetime," he said, his voice sounding more human now, "but nothing like you. I've seen what you'll do in the future. I'm sorry. I wish there was another way." Thunder hurled down from the sky, blasting at Frederica's womb. She dodged ouf ot the way of the blasts, holding up her sword for protection though she knew it would do no good. A flock of vultures as large as dragons flew down from the sky. "Let them feast upon you, just as you feasted upon the worlds you destroyed, daughter of Chaos!" said the Spectre, his voice now once more full of divine wrath. Frederica slashed at them, but it didn't seem to do any good. They grew stronger as rivers of blood ran from their veins. There had to be something she could do...

Then, the desert began to rumble. The Spectre gazed forward, and there was horror on his face. A wave of darkness was rushing through the sky. "So Minestus has accomplished his goal... No... It can't be... This shall be a fitting punishment for you, then!" he said, as he vanished. The darkness was rushing toward them. The sword was beginning to glow. Frederica raised up her sword as she faced it, somehow knowing that it was the right thing to do. "No!" screamed her daughter. "It's a timequake! Get out of its way!" But Frederica didn't move. The wave hit her, and she fell unconscious immediately...

  1. Frederica was spat out in the era the sword came from. She landed on the side of a road, underneath two enormous war-zeppelins that were fighting in the sky.
