It was Velus who noticed it first. He was being carried by Astra as she
rode on Jorn, with Fred loping along beside them. (Jorn drew the line at
bearing the weight of a second rider.) Looking up at Astra, she looked
younger, somehow, more like eighteen than her usual early twenties.
Looking sideways at Fred, he thought that he looked a little younger than
before as well. It was harder to tell in the case of Jorn (he looked to be
middle-aged and Velus had no idea of what the life-span of a centaur was)
and of Velus himself (since he was covered in hair).
Using his coded barks, he alerted the others. "Eddies in time," Jorn said. "Is he?" Fred said. "I'm glad that he's not late, But who's Eddy?" "No, I mean that we must be caught in a time eddy. They're very rare but can be very dangerous."
