Fred and Exotica looked at each other. "Well, what do you make of that?"
Exotica asked.
"I don't know, but you were rather rude to him." "Was I? I suppose
I was."
They examined the mirror closely. It appeared to be a perfectly ordinary mirror, except that the glass had no blemishes or distortions at all, a rarity for such a large sheet at this period. "What do you think we should do?" Exotica asked Fred. "I don't know. I'll do whatever you think best." Exotica was already worried about Fred, and this response made her more so. Surely she had never been as weedy as this? As well as sexual traits having been switched, they seemed to have been exaggerated. Thinking about what sort of a future Fred was likely to have as a knight who preferred to wear pink dresses decided her. "Come on!" she said. "We're going through." As they held out their hands to the mirror, its surface seemed to shimmer, and they found they could walk through it without any resistance. Looking around them, they found that they had emerged into a room that seemed identical to the one they had just left - except that it was its mirror image, of course. Turning around, they found there was one difference: there was no sign of the mirror, which rather alarmed them. Then Exotica exclaimed: "Look! Your hair is parted on the opposite side." So it was, and they soon also realised that both of them were now left-handed. They, too, were mirror images of their former selves. <p?"I wonder what the man meant when he said that what happened here would be entirely up to us," Fred said. "Who knows?" replied Exotica.
