"But only with me, eh?" the dragon responded. "Still, good help is hard to
find, and I'm a little annoyed about the fate of my guard." Then he sent a
jet of flame in Fred's direction.
Fred rolled out of the way, but forward as well as sideways, so that when he sprang to his feet he was to one side of the dragons's neck. As the dragon swung its head towards him, preparatory to sending another fiery breath at him, Fred thrust the point of his sword through its eye and deep into its brain. Fred jumped back as blood spurted from the dragon's eye socket and the creature flailed in agony. But within a few seconds its death throes were over. The dragon was no more! The magically produced mist rapidly dispersed, allowing Fred to see:
