From the satisfied look on Miranda's face, Fred suspected that she had
killed Belboz deliberately. Though she was crazy, it seemed that she must
have a great deal of magical power. If so, he wondered why she hadn't used
it against Belboz earlier. "So much for my moral scruples about the
necromancer's fate," he said with a sigh.
"You don't expect us to feel sad about his demise, I hope," Sophie said with a touch of asperity. "He got what he deserved." Not even Fred could disagree with that. "We should see if he had any provisions that we could use," he said. "What's in my pack won't go far amongst so many. And anything that you ladies could wear. Then we should make all haste to leave these caves. After all, somewhere deep within them is supposed to be a ferocious dragon, which was why I came here in the first place." "I'm not sure that it would be wise of us to use anything of Belboz's," Astra said, hating her new squeaky voice, not least because it threatened her position as unelected leader of the group. "We don't know what spells any item might have on it. Besides, all his clothing has the smell of death clinging to it. As for food and water, once we leave the caves we can live off the land if necessary till we reach civilised parts."
