From his hiding point, Fred watches the old man discover the book. He waddles over and rips out another page! Then he leaves, two torn out pages in his hands.
Fred must discover if the first torn out page is the dog/human to normal spell. He follows the old man very carefully. Velus stays at his side, keeping quiet also. Lord Fred follows the man through a library, a wine cellar, a study, a crude restroom, an empty arena and a few hundred feet of stinky, body-filled catacombs. Velus whines at the first few bodies he sees, so Fred carries him through them with Velus's head tucked tight into his chest. It was unseemly for a teenager to be exposed to such. Lord Fred knew how to deal with the sight of dead bodies. The old man finally stopped in a natural cavern turned into a bedroom. Carpets and tapestrys covered most of the stone. Fred peeked inside. The man was gone but the paper was on the floor. What happened? Fred uses his sword to reach into the room and drag the paper to him. It was the doggy spell but...it needed ingredients only wizards had on hand! Not to worry, though. Once Fred and Velus got back to the castle after killing the dragon, the court magician could easily whip up the spell and change Velus back to human. Heck, the magician probably *carried* the obscure potions and powders nessacary in his belt pouches. Velus was encouraged by that but still wished he could be changed back now. Fred memorized the spell then secured the parchment on his person. What do our hero do now?
