Bright Light

A bright glow was seen by the three heroes emanating from beyond a further bend in the cave tunnel. Thinking upon the previous green flash and the eyeball, they prepared themselves for battle. Turning the bend, however, they discovered the light too bright to look upon, they retreated back the way they had come.

Suddenly a figure within the light charged them! The form, smacking the now-human Velus in the adam's apple, caused the poor farmboy to hit the ground like a sack of apples. Fred was punched several times in the nose and eyes which caused him to hit the tunnel wall and temporarily lose his sight. Astra was the last to be accosted - by this time her vision had readjusted from the bright tunnel to the dim tunnel, and she tried to grapple the attacker. But the attacker had a slim blade at hand and slit Astra's palms! Then the silent attacker went for Astra's jugular! The two were frozen in a deadly hold for what seemed to be an eternity - but the attacker had the upper hand and shoved the bleeding Astra against the stone wall. Then Astra was punched in the gut, a move which winded her, and finally the assassin shoved a pick into her throat. Within seconds Astra's pain was over. Then the attacker, ignoring Fred and Velus, returned to the corridor with the bright light.

Fred and Velus looked upon the dead body. "The Dragon really had it out for that woman," said Velus.

"Yes it did," answered Fred, then he turned to the farmboy. "Now it is just you and I. Are you ready for this?"

Velus looked at the knight. "I will serve you as you serve our King. The Dragon took me from my home, made me walk on four legs, and imprisoned me in these damn caves. I am not warrior, but I will do what I can - and remember, I've been here long enough to have walked a lot of these tunnels. Let me tell you what I know."
