Aboard the Pirate Ship

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 5504

Astra, Fred, and Velus tried to make their way back to the entrance, but with Fred leading the way, almost anything that could go wrong was bound to happen. Fred led the group in circles three times before giving up command to Astra, who tripped—twice. The first one she survived unscathed, but the second gave her a rather nasty limp, so she gave command back to Fred. Fred slew a couple of unknown beasts, but all three soon found out the beasts tasted horrible raw. And, in an admirable stroke of bad luck, they found a door labeled “Weapons Closet” only to find that it had been cleared out except for a coil of rope. Finally, Fred gave up and let Velus lead. Velus thought he could lead them back but ended up finding only the same dead end Fred and Astra had found him in. Fred took the lead again, and managed to find the earthman they had left behind a couple of episodes back. Unfortunately, having lost all of his lava, he was just about as good as useless.

Tired, hungry, and generally fed up with each other, the three adventurers decided that there was no way they were going to get back to the entrance before dying of exhaustion, and they looked for a place to get a few hours of sleep. Normally, this wouldn’t be especially hard in a series of caves, but Astra was noticeably picky about her choice of sleeping arrangements. She had been chained up for several days, and she wanted a bed to rest on. She was emphatic about that, no matter how hard Fred tried to persuade her that the likelihood of finding a bed in the caves was next to none. They returned to the cave with the extinguished former lava man, and Fred began to craft a bed out of mud. Astra wouldn’t accept it. After a little more journeying, they came back to the cave with the dead pirates. Peering into a neighboring cave, Fred saw something that looked like a door. He rushed over and discovered that it was indeed a door. Velus quickly followed with Astra, whose limp luckily had not worsened, bringing up the rear. Fred opened the door, revealing a room with (finally) a bed, which Astra promptly lay down on, and a desk with some drawers. Fred opened one of the drawers and found a small book. It was the Captain’s Log. Reading it, Fred realized they were on the pirates’ ship. But if this was the ship, how did they get on it in the first place?

Fred looked out the still-open door and found a wooden plank that had obviously been used when the pirates came ashore and when the adventurers had come aboard. Fred picked up the plank and, with Velus’ help, scoured the rest of the ship for any pirates that might have been left aboard. Finding nothing, he returned to the captain’s room, confident that no one would disturb their sleep. Velus quickly snuggled up next to the bed, leaving only Fred awake. Fred closed the door, found a waste bucket in the room, placed it precariously on top of the doorsill, and tied it to the doorknob using Velus' piece of rope. If anyone opened the door before Fred removed the bucket, someone was going to get a nasty surprise in the head. Confident that he had taken all the necessary precautionary measures, Fred fell asleep on the floor. Upon waking up, Fred found himself...

  1. ...securely tied to a bedpost, with the infamous captain Yellowbeard saying "I think these three will fetch a nice price at auction."
  2. ...securely tied to Astra by the same coil of rope he had found in the weapons closet. Somehow Velus had escaped, and they knew not who or where their captors were.
  3. ...thrown against the desk by unknown forces. Apparently the pirate ship had become beached on a dried-up river that was filling up again.
