"Who are you to think you can barge in here and order me around?"
Tatterdemalion hissed, rising from his cushion. His eyes churned with
liquid fire, as the restless souls of the cat underworld rose from the
dark, and began to swirl around him in a macabre waltz of sorts. "Magnificent!" Mittens purred, as vile Shoggoth-energy boiled out of the ground surrounding her. "So the rumours were not false! After I crush you, you will make an excellent servant, to aid in my bloody revenge against the one they call Fred." "You're a bit green to take me on." Tatterdemalion said. "You may have the Shoggoth's power, but in truth you're just a scared little kitten who doesnt know how to use it! I've been besting whelps like you ever since I clawed my way out of my mother's uterus, after she had been roasted to death fighting a lava man." "Aye, but you seem to have put on some weight since those days." Mittens smirked. "I suppose slapping the gutter scum of Merlas around isn't much of an exercise, eh?" The souls of cat demons spinning around Tatterdemalion went faster and faster, yowling and hissing. Meanwhile, the pestilential dark energy around Mittens boiled higher and higher, whipping into a frenzy. Then, as if on cue, both cats suddenly lunged, meeting in a hissing, shrieking tangle of fur in midair. As expected, Mittens had the edge on Tatterdemalion in speed, landing three hits for each one of his. But the old cat barely seemed to feel them, while a couple of his bats to her head left Mittens feeling positively dazed. Just as suddenly, they disentangled and started circling each other. "The claws come out next." Tatterdemalion warned grimly. "You won't land another hit." Mittens said, just as grim. "I will not fail in my mission." Tatterdemalion surged forward unexpectedly, yeowling and rising on his hind legs to land a devastating overhead bat to Mittens' face. She barely leaned back in time to avoid being knocked unconscious, but the blow still sent her reeling. He had not used his claws as threatened, but Mittens now did, taking advantage of her smaller size to strike directly at Tatterdemalion's soft underbelly. He shrieked in agony and literally flipped upside down through the air to bat Mittens away. They landed several paces apart, breathing heavy. "Had enough?" Mittens said, dizzy.
