Further Into the Tunnels

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 5464

"Well, going back would involve negotiating the pool again, and also it wouldn't get us any closer to tracking down and destroying the dragon. So I guess we have to go onwards." "That's what I figured as well," said Exotica. "I think it was more of a fluke than anything else that my spell came off - I'm pretty much a beginner at magic. So I couldn't guarantee a repeat performance if we went through the pool again."

So they continued further into the tunnels. As they walked, Fred asked Exotica: "I've been wondering. How did you come to get such a strange name?" "All girls born into our family have always had blonde hair, going back many generations. Then I came along with jet-black hair; I even had some black hair when I was born. So my parents thought I was rather exotic, and called me 'Exotica'." "Oh," said Fred, thinking that the explanation was less interesting than he had hoped.

After they had walked for some time, the tunnel they were in emerged part-way up a cliff-face. A rather rickety looking bridge led across to the continuation of the tunnel on the far side of the chasm, some twenty feet away. As an alternative to risking the bridge, the cliff appeared to be climbable, but it would be difficult.

  1. They risk the rickety bridge.
  2. They attempt to descend the cliff to the floor of the chasm, some one hundred feet below.
  3. They start to climb up the cliff, not knowing where they will finish up.
  4. They decide that the only prudent thing to do is to retrace their steps.
