The catapult had been in storage, and it took them several days to prepare it for use and wheel it close enough to the border.

Unfortunately, that was enough time for the body to decompose enough that instead of being flung into the next duchy, it simply broke apart in the air, showering them all with maggots and bits of rotting meat.
