Stacy stabbed instinctively with the knife. She didn't intend to kill the
man, but as luck (whether it was good luck or bad was debatable) would
have it the knife went straight into his heart and he died instantly.
Stacy looked for a moment at the rapidly growing pool of blood that now surrounded the man where he lay on her kitchen floor (where they had stumbled to from the lounge during their struggle). Then she threw up. Shaking, she made her way to the bathroom and cleaned herself up. By the time she had finished, she was able to think again. Who had sent the man? Would they try again? What should she do now? Call the police? After all, the man had come into her home uninvited and threatened her with a gun, so surely it was a clear case of self defence. Or should she try to keep this secret? In which case how was she going to dispose of the body, not to mention remove an enormous bloodstain from the kitchen linoleum?
