Astra decided that, if she had to be sold, she would rather not be sold to
the man in the ermine collar, who had already shown himself to be
duplicitious. Perhaps most men would have tried the trick that he had in
order to lower her price, but additionally there was something about him
that she did not care for. And if she was not to be sold to Ermine Collar,
then that presumably meant that she would have to be sold to the man in
the shadows - or rather sold to his patron. It was true that he too might
not be a good man, but "better the devil you don't know" as the old
Aqualarian proverb had it.
Apparently the man in the shadows had not been convinced that she was a dragon by her use of the silent speech. How could she demonstrate that she was one? It was ironic that when she had first become a dragon she had had trouble in reverting to and maintaining her human form but now had the opposite problem because of the anklet. Should she try to speak to the man again? She decided that she would. Why did you say "We shall meet again" if you aren't sure that I am a dragon? she asked.
