Some unknown time later, she came round and opened her eyes, pleasantly surprised to find that she was still alive.

1. Or was she? For her surroundings looked very like her people's legends of the after-life.
2. "I managed to save your brain but not your body," a voice said from somewhere behind her. "But fortunately I had something suitable into which to transplant it."
3. She was lying on a trolley, her body encased in plaster from the neck down.
4. Amazingly, she seemed to have nothing worse than bruises.
