How strange Fred felt for now his quest would come to an end. He felt
tingly all over and tense and excited and fearful. The creature was
asleep before him and with it it's eggs. The torchlight illumined the
grey-green scales of the female and Fred thought back to all the king's-
folk that had tried to fight off the beast and were left with nothing more
than scales...or worse. Looking upon the reptilian form he thought of the
folk from Kymlaen. They were attacked not two fortnight's before and it
was told that the beast had come upon them on the eve of the Hollow
Night.
With tales of faeiriefolk and trollbeast lolling within their heads the
wind shifted and a warm breeze rushed through the hamlet. Only three
families and an assorted ten others survived that encounter. All the
others died in the frightful fires that consumed the fields, pens and
houses. Fred smiled a cold smile; now it was his turn to do
some killing. Vengeance would be his.
He gathered the wizard and his bewitched cousin and they formed their plan of attack. Within moments Fred had unsheathed his sword, Belboz had begun reading from his Book of power, and Gregorio pulled out a strangely glowing quarterstaff.
