It was not until some time after his forced relocation to another chair
that Fred surmised that something was not right. At first he had attributed his feeling of unease to what Dr Freud called Unheimlich, the Uncanny, the alienating strangeness of new situations. However as the seconds turned into minutes and the minutes metamorphosised into hours and the hours did whatever hours liked to do when they got restless, Fred gradually came to the conclusion that the mere fact of his movement from one chair (broken) to another chair (intact, more comfortable, but otherwise inferior) was not responsible for what he now recognised to be a sense of foreboding. What was responsible for Fred's foreboding?
