A Dargon's Aid

Belboz's voice echoed throughout the chamber as he began to spin faster and faster. "Death to ye who would dare challenge the might of Belboz the Dargon!"

"Dargon?" Fred paused. "No, no. I'm searching for the dragon!"

Belboz stopped his spinning and began to float inertly. "Dragon, you say? My mistake. I'm sure you would agree that it's very easy to get the two confused."

"Indeed," replied Lord Fred. "At least there was no harm done. So, do you have any idea where I might find the actual dragon?"

"Oh, yes. He's actually quite close by, but you could wander these corridors and tunnels for the rest of your life and never find him. You see, his lair is hidden in an alternate dimension."

Fred looked puzzled. "How do I reach it?" he asked.

"We Dargons have knowledge of such things. All I have to do is convert any doorway into a dimensional gate for you to pass through. This door you were just about to enter would work perfectly, for example."

Fred still had one more question: "How will I get home once the dragon is vanquished?"

"I'm afraid I won't be able to help you with that. A gateway only works in one direction, you see." Belboz's fiery form dimmed briefly. "However, if you manage to find a Dargon on the other side and explain your quest, I'm sure he would be more than happy to send you back. I'm sure you can imagine that we Dargons would be very pleased to see the dragon slain. So much confusion..."

"It looks like I'll just have to take that risk," said Fred. "Thank you for your help."

"It is my pleasure. Now, please stand back while I create the gateway."

With that, Belboz began to spin and swirl once again. The door sparkled and strange runes appeared on its oaken surface.

"It is done," said Belboz. "I must bid you farewell now. Good luck!" In a burst of flame, he was gone.

1. Fred opened the door and stepped through.
