Ecco approached the deep-blue altar, the steps of her powersuit
disturbingly loud in this beautiful place. She examined the altar, when
suddenly it began to glow. Before Ecco's eyes appeared the projection of
a beautiful mermaid, faint and ghostlike. "Thank you for rescuing me, Chosen One." the mermaid said. "I have been trapped here for thousands of years by the alien godhead's curse." "Huh?" Ecco said. "What are you talking about? Who are you?" "There is no time." the mermaid said in a burbling voice. "Even now, darkness follows you through the holy land. We must flee from this palace, or we will surely be trapped here for eternity." Ecco heard a sound through her advanced dolphin hearing. Spinning about, she saw... something... a faint scuttering shadow across the wall, which seemed to be camouflaging itself into its surroundings. Then Ecco realized there were dozens of them, crawling all over the walls of the room, slowly surrounding Ecco and the mermaid. "Oh no! They've caught us!" the mermaid said.
