To the Mountains

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 52396

"The wind will be a large advantage when we have Katrina by our side, so I suggest we head up the mountains" Fred said. He was expected Shadow to say argue, but he simply nodded and began walking towards the mountains. Fred and Katrina followed.

The reason that they're climbing a mountain instead of traveling through the caves as they usually do, this is because of the way the dragon's lair is set up. The dragon's lair lies within the peak of the mountain the three adventurers wish to scale. They may enter either by climbing the mountain by hand, or an alternate entrance is to enter the old smuggler's cave. The cave would lead them underneath the ground and eventually up through the mountain and into the dragon's lair.

For half a day, they traveled at a steady yet quickening pace. It wouldn't be long before they reached the rigid, rocky grounds of the mountain. For now, they enjoyed the walking across the smooth, wide, grassy planes. When night had begun to fall, they rested atop one of the few hills they came across. Starting a fire was simple. Although they hadn't passed any trees on their journey to gather wood from, Fred had carried some logs of oak in his bag in case they were to ever be without it. All Fred needed was a spark from clashing two rocks together, for Katrina would then manipulate the fire and spread it across the wood. It took them little more than a minute to get the fire blazing.

"Now" said Katrina. "You know I can't light fires like this for the whole quest. My magic is strong, but can be depleted in a heart beat if improperly used."

"Alright" said Fred, while Shadow said nothing, which was unsurprising.

Katrina smiled. She removed her traveling cloak and sat down next to the fire. Fred was about to take a seat beside her when he noticed Shadow was nowhere in site. He turned around and was relieved yet surprised to find him walking away into a dark corner at the foot of the hill. His dark black cloak and hood caused him to blend in with the night quite nicely.

"Where the devil is he going" Fred asked.

"He doesn't appear to be a very social person. I think he enjoys being by himself, so we should just let him be. He'll come by the fire if he gets cold."

Fred doubted it, but he didn't want to push the subject any further, so he sat down on the opposite side of Katrina, letting the fire warm his cold, rough skin. However, the thought of his companion continued to linger through his mind.

  1. Begrudgingly, Fred gets up and talks to Shadow.
  2. Fred trys to get his mind off the assassin by talking to Katrina.
