Fred's Not Sure About Ambaric

"I know," Fred answered. "I was hoping I was the first here for that reason."

Astra stood back and allowed Fred to enter. "You don't trust him, do you?"

"No, I don't. We've only just met him. I just wanted to make sure he did what he said he was going to do."

Astra shook her head. "You find it hard to trust anyone, don't you?"

Fred looked at her squarely, his tone hard. "Trust is a very precious and fragile thing. Like that vase would have been if it had been real Ming. You can't hand it out to just anyone."

This was a side of Fred that Astra decided she didn't like, but before she could say anything, there was another knock on the door. Opening it, she found it was Ambaric. His eyes showed a flicker of surprise at Fred being present, but didn't say anything as he closed the door behind him. Instead, he focussed his attention on Astra, and the spell he had agreed to cast. Putting the incense on the bed, he raised his arms and started the incantations, Fred carefully watching his every move.

1. Everything goes smoothly.
2. There is a 'complication'.
3. Ambaric does something that arouses Fred's suspicion.
