"She seems to be getting worse," Fred observed to Sharon as they continued
to ride in pursuit of Tarsa. "At first it was just hyperactivity and a bit
of high-spirited rebellion against the Temple's rules, and it seemed
fairly harmless, even kind of charming. But now she's progressed to
violence, theft and arson. Will it be murder next?"
"Oh merciful Granas, I do hope not," Sharon said. "The Church might just be able to turn a blind eye to what she has done so far, and be able to persuade the police to take no action, but there are limits." "You seem more concerned about her than about her victims." "It's vitally important that she officiates in the ceremony to prevent the rebirth of Valmar. If she can't then we'll all be victims. So we have to get her back and then undo whatever curse has been placed on her. But if she does kill someone before we can catch her, then I don't know what we'll do. Let's pray that it doesn't come to that." "You can do the praying. I'm not too hot in that department. And it'll have to be while we ride. We can't afford any delay." Just then Skye flew back with his latest report. "She's reached Setrial, Fred. She went into the Black Boar inn." "Damn! It was obvious some time ago that that was where she was headed, but I was hoping that we could catch her before she arrived. That port is a haunt of thieves and pirates. She may be bad now, but she'll be out of her league there. There's only one of her, she's not that strong and she has no weapons training. But she's pretty enough, so she'll probably finish up as a slave working in a brothel. And there's only two - pardon, three - of us, so if she gets into trouble it won't be easy to get her out of it...
