What Would a Dragon-Mage Want with a Philosopher?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 51900

Astra sat in front of Fred, Velus in her lap. Fortunately the saddle extended far enough forward that there was room on it for her, though of course she had to manage without stirrups. Fred's arms holding the reins gave her a degree of support on either side. Since the horse mostly went no faster than a brisk trot, she found that it wasn't hard to remain in the saddle.

The most direct route to Behjing would take them north-westwards, passing not all that far from the Allarian capital of Caemlyn. Fred wondered whether they should make a slight detour so that he could report to King Emry. But what would he say? "I'm afraid that my quest to kill the dragon hasn't gone too well. I'm working for him now. But at least I'm doing my bit to improve relations with Aqualaria, since this naked hottie with me is none other than Princess Astra." No, perhaps on second thoughts it would be wiser to keep away from Caemlyn. In fact, it might be best to detour further away from it, even if it meant adding a day or so to their journey.

He had just come to that conclusion when Astra asked: "What do you know about this Tao Tse Mung - please hold still, Velus! - this Tao Tse Mung whom we're supposed to kidnap? The dragon didn't expect us to have heard of him, but you seemed to recognise his name."

"Yes, I've heard of him. He's a philosopher of great renown. Well, great renown amongst other philosophers anyway. Being a philsopher, he's not well known to the man in the street. I wonder what the dragon could possibly want with him?"

  1. Astra has no idea.
  2. Astra comes up with a theory.
  3. Velus continues to wriggle in Astra's lap, so that instead of answering Fred she breaks out in helpless laughter, to the extent that she is in danger of falling off the horse.
