Mark's an Idiot

Mark looks up from his book. "Well, duh," he replies disparagingly. "Have you only just realised that?"

Karen thinks for a moment. "Yes." Mark blinks, and goes back to reading.

Karen's book is quite a bit shorter than Mark's, so she puts it back and goes browsing for another. She pulls one out only for it to start growing in size, open up and pull her in. The whole thing happens so quickly that Karen has no time to call out, so Mark is still unaware.
