What with the blow to the head and the shock of what she had just been told, Astra's mind was in a whirl, and she did not ask the questions that she ordinarily would have done. Hitching up the skirt of her wedding dress, she hurried out of the church. Fred was deep in conversation with the priest and did not see her go, and nobody else saw fit to intervene.

Outside the church, she looked around for her coach.

But there was no sign of one.
As luck would have it, there was a coach waiting outside. Assuming that it was hers, Astra got in. The coachman assumed that this must be the person he had been told to pick up, and set the horses in motion.
