Astra was worried that the heaviness of their legs had persisted for so
long. They had been able to cover little more than half the distance that
they would normally have expected. That meant that they were still well
short of the first cache.
They had no lantern, and the risk of missing a landmark meant that there could be no question of their continuing after dark. They would have to sleep out in the open as best they could, and put up with their hunger. At least the frequent pools of rainwater they had encountered meant that thirst would not be a problem. They hoped that by the morning the heaviness in their legs would have worn off. They discussed whether they should take turns to keep watch. But Hesht said that there were no dangerous animals in this region and that the chance of any search party from the alchemists finding them was remote. So they decided that keeping watch was unnecessary.
