Sir Fred's Dilemma

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 50866

Sir Fred has a dilemma.

He has been sent upon this quest by the King himself -- a quest to slay the mighty dragon. Now, completely forgetting the earlier issue of Bruno (the village drunk cursed into a bear form), Fred has discovered that the dragon is a friendly sort and that he does not wish to cause it harm or discomfort.

Sir Fred has decided to return to the King and issue a plea of mercy and benevolence on behalf of the dragon, but this leads him to his dilemma. How does Fred return? The tunnel only leads back to the library, and the way Fred entered the library is not accessible as an exit point.

Sir Fred looks pleadingly at the dragon and says, Lord Dragon, will you not be good enough to fly me out of your lair so that I may plead with the King for mercy on your behalf?

The dragon looks at Fred and snorts, Ha! Everytime I go to that cursed village, the local fools shoot arrows and throw rocks at me. No way! There is no way I am flying you to that village of pismires.

Fred starts to cry in frustration, Oh woe is me! Must I live out eternity here in this accursed dragon's lair? I had dreams of winning the hands of fair maidens and other such things, you know!

The dragon grins, looks at Fred with pity in its eyes, and says: While I will not fly you to that accursed village, I did not say I would not take you out of here. Nearby is a high moutain peak. I will leave you on the mountain, but from there you must find your own way to the King's village.

Sir Fred quickly agrees to this. The dragon then takes Fred in its claws and flys out through a secret passage. The dragon flys for miles and miles. Through the day and through the night, the dragon flies on. Fred loses all sense of place and direction. Finally, after endless hours of flight, the dragon alights on a craggy moutain peak and releases Fred.

Good luck, my friend, says the dragon as it takes off and begins to fly away. Wait, yells Fred in desperation. Which way is the village? However, the dragon is miles away by this point and no longer hears or responds to Fred.

Fred now looks around to survey his situation.

Sir Fred is on a craggy mountain peak. On one side is a sheer cliff which might be scaled by a skilled climber. An unskilled climber, however, would fall to his death. On the other side is a steep but passable slope that leads to what looks like a Troll's den.

  1. Fred attempts to scale the cliff
  2. Fred approaches the Troll's den
  3. Fred, being afraid of both heights and Trolls, begins to sob
