Fred was worried. Andromeda seemed confident, but did she really know what
she was doing? In the worst case, she might even kill herself.
The dwarven woman - Fred saw that the old story that dwarven women were bearded was false - set down two large steins full of a cloudy yellow liquid. Griminir picked his up and downed the contents without pausing for breath. He slammed the empty stein back down on the table and looked at Andromeda challengingly. Then he belched loudly. Andromeda smiled. Then she drank the contents of her stein, if not quite as quickly as the dwarf had done then still impressively fast. "You may think that you are doing well," Griminir said, "but it will take a few minutes for you to feel the effects. Pelna, refill our steins." The female dwarf took up a large pitcher of mead and refilled both steins from it. Both contestents emptied them again, a little more slowly this time. "More mead!" Andromeda called. Fred thought that she was starting to look slightly flushed, but other than that neither she nor the dwarf yet showed any visible sign of being affected. Fifteen minutes later, the pace had slowed. Even so, both the Atlan and the dwarf were halfway through their sixth steinful. "The more of thish I drink, the more I like it," Andromeda observed. She was swaying a little in her seat now, whereas Griminir still seemed unaffected.
