Azetral is amused by the spectacle Fred's desperate efforts afford. She laughs awhile and applauds sarcastically. Eventually Fred realises he is beaten and turns to face her.

"Did you really think I would just happen to leave a magic book open at a page which would allow you some means of escape and then conveniently leave the room?"

Fred attempts to say that he is very sorry, but all that emerges from his throat is a braying noise, a bit like this:

"EEEEEE-OOOHHHH!"

"And as for picking a donkey, when you could have flown through the bars as a bat, or burst through the cage as a stallion, or toasted me as a dragon - why you must surely be among the most foolish of mortals!"

Fred's semi-donkeyfied face looks forlorn at this.

"Yet that is why you are still alive; reciting any of the other incantations would have turned you into a pile of ashes!"

"EEEEE- OOHHH!"

"Yes it was a test - a test you passed by proving yourself stupid, brainless, idiotic, Quayle-ish -"

"EEEEE- OOOHHHH!"

"Yes you are right, perhaps I go to far. But I assume even you get my point by now?"

"EEEEEEEEE-OOOHHH!"

"Why, you ask? Well the answer is very simple . . .

1. . . . I want you to marry me!"
2. . . . only someone truly, profoundly unintelligent would agree to the quest I am asking you to undertake!"
3. . . . I wanted someone to play Scrabble with - and I HATE losing!"
