Belboz's Motive

The mage looked surprised. "Of course not," he said. "You don't think that I'm interested in that sort of thing at my age, do you?"

"So why was it me that you chained up rather than one of the others?"

"I felt that you would be the most effective hostage. I needed to ensure that the others would return, and a girl is surely less likely to be deserted by her companions than a man would be."

Perhaps standards of chivalry were higher back in olden times, Elashi thought. I'm not so confident as he seems to be that the others will come back.

1. Belboz suggests that they pass the time by playing I-Spy.
2. elboz asks Elashi to give him a quick run-down on the history of the last few hundred years.
3. Belboz says: "I have a new spell that I've been wanting to test, but until now I haven't had a victim... I mean subject."
