It was exactly three days later that Synizn appeared in the city of
Walants. He was disheveled, wild-eyed
and crazed looking. He didn't seem to know where he was, as if he was
lost. He seemed to be searching
for something, but didn't know where to look.
Lurching through the muddy street Synizn stumbled into a nearby door that sagged on a broken frame, into the Goat Head Tavern. He slumped into a splintered chair and took a deep, shuddering breath. He didn't even notice the cracked and smashed wreckage all around him, nor the worn and frightened patrons that milled nervously about the place. Al, the barmaid, cautiously approached him. "Take your order?" she asked, in a dazed, tired voice. Synizn lifted his gaze toward her and then, for the first time, Synizn began to see what was all around him. "What has happened here?" he asked, his voice hoarse and hollow. Al looked out of the broken window of the tavern, out into the street where rubble and half-destroyed buildings filled up the view. "The earth trembled..." Al replied in a small, frightened whisper, "... and the winds blew, and the sun went black in the noonday sky. It began as such a little thing, only four days ago. But nature's wrath grew and grew until, on yesterday's morn, the full fury of the gods was unleashed upon us. We thought it was the end of the world." Synizn's mouth went suddenly dry and the urge to drown himself in drink nearly overwhelmed him. "The end of the world?" Synizn murmured to himself. "No, not yet. But its coming..." And to himself he thought, 'And the only way I can stop it is if I find Fred and Astra. But they're gone!'
