Fred is arrested and bundled into a Black Maria. He is driven to the
nearest gaol, where he is thrown in the cell for the night. He sleeps uneasily on the hard, narrow bed, his slumber being disturbed on many occasions by the ramblings of the drunk in the next cell. Fred awakes early next morning to find a cold, wet cloth being rubbed into his face. Fair enough, Fred thinks, but couldn't they find some other way of washing diapers in this joint? The desk sergeant (for it is he) removes the cloth when he sees Fred is awake. "Welcome back, punk!" he smirks. "I'm just going to have some breakfast. In the meantime maybe you want to start thinking about who you want to make your one phone call to." He leaves the cell and locks the door behind him. "Just great," thinks Fred, "I get one phone call and the telephone won't be invented for another six centuries!" Just then Fred's reveries are interrupted by the arrival of
