thus will permit a vessel to leave the Earth for the Moon, has been
stolen. Though the Professor says that he can produce more, he cannot do
so by as early as 1900. It is a very long and laborious process."
"Goodness!" Mina says. "A lunar expedition! That hardly seems credible. I can see that it would be a great blow to British prestige if it had to be cancelled." "Since only a few people know about it as yet, that is not M's main concern. Rather it is that the stealer of the Cavorite might be intending to use it to create flying vehicles from which he could subject England to an aerial bombardment, and thus be able to hold the nation to ransom."
