"Magic," said Astra, thinking quickly. That explanation should leave the
least
scope for argument. "Merry and Harry were able to send the houses down by
magic, even though they could not go down to earth themselves."
Feeling that the story had gone on quite long enough, she concluded: "And so all the villagers, and Jill in particular, lived happily ever after." The annoying child looked as though he wanted to ask another question but, to Astra's relief, before he could do so the amuzgar stood up and said: "I'm sure that we would all like to thank our guest for such an entertaining tale, so well told. And a tale that had a very good moral to it, as well. It is nearly time to break for lunch now, but we haven't completed going around the room, so I think that we should do that first." After Astra, Hesht should have been next. Apparently aware of his stuttering problem, likely to be exacerbated by a situation where all eyes would be on him, the amuzgar asked: "Do you wish to say anything? You need not if you don't want to."
