Fred, being a man who relished variety and trying new things (which
explained the annoying rash on his naughty parts and whip-marks marring
his back), went left. For if you remember, dear reader, Fred first
entered these abhorrent caves via the right hand entrance. With firm
resolve, and even firmer buttocks (he worked out), Fred struck a path
into the sulphurous fog and was enveloped by it completely. It didn’t take long for the poisonous vapors to work their ill-effects on his respiratory system, and he began to cough and choke. He made a swift retreat back to the fork. “Dammit,” he muttered angrily. “Stupid crap. Dammit, dammit, dammit. Crap. Stupid. Dammit.” And other various imprecations ensued, most of which we dare not repeat. There might be children reading.Questing was such a bother. Why couldn’t the king fight his own stupid battles!? The virgin maidens the dragon kidnaped in the dead of night were a bunch of stuck-up prudes, anyway. The treasure vaults it looted belonged to stingy warlords and even some of his political enemies. And yes, once in awhile the scaly monster would burn a few fields and drink up a few rivers and devour a few peasants. So what? Dragons have needs too! “Oh well,” he conceded, not being one to quail away from a challenge when fame and riches were involved. “All I have to do is slay the stupid beast and I’ll be the most popular dude in the whole Kingdom, not to mention the richest. Babes love a popular dude with money.”He decided to improvise. Digging through his supply pouch he fashioned himself a mask out of a piece of cloth and some string, and then delved back into the misty tunnel. Remarkably, his crude device worked. After several minutes the tunnel came to an abrupt end. He found himself in a huge chamber filled to the brink with mountains upon mountains of treasure.The Dragon’s Lair! And there, snoring loudly atop one of the hugest mounds of gold, slept the dragon itself. With each rancid exhale, a jet of poisonous vapors poured out of it’s huge nostrils.Now was the moment of truth. Fred unsheathed his sword and crept toward his nemesis...
