They didn't have to wait long before their now-powerful noses detected the
scent of a possible target heading their way. Immediately, they froze,
barely even breathing. Moments later, a pair of animals wandered below. They were each about the size of a fox and resembled pudgy gophers. The beasts (either nocturnal or just restive) snuffed at the base of several nearby tress, probably looking for their own dinner. Fred and Astra remained stock-still for long moments, watching the two animals below. Then, as though pre-arranged, they leapt from their perch in the trees and pounced on their prey. The gopher-things had no chance. The predators took them totally by surprise, and even though they enormous gnawing teeth and some fairly sharp digging claws, they had no chance to use them. Fred sunk his own claws into his prey, and it died with a single squeal. Astra's prey expired silently as she used her fangs to rip open its throat. After that, Fred and Astra were pretty much lost in a haze of feeding frenzy as the Jaguari instincts provided by Anthris kicked in. Soon, the gopher-things were reduced to two piles of bones and scraps. The two predators remained on the ground for a while, with Fred gnawing aimlessly on bones and Astra grooming herself. Finally, though, Fred roused himself. "That was a verrrry satissssfying meal," he said, tossing aside a last bone. "It wassss indeed," Astra replied, stretching in contentment. "Funny that beforrre, we would have wasted time ssskinning, cutting and cooking it - I find thisss way much fasterrr - and morrre enjoyable." "If we werrrre still human, we would not." "That's quite trrrue," Astra said, not sounding very concerned. "In any case, now that we have hunted and fed, we should..."
