Predators

Astra emitted a feral growl. "What has happened to ussssss?" she hissed.

The woman in the chair smiled. "I have simply altered your forms to better suit my plans. I suppose I could have let that 'Vincent' person have his way with you, but did you really want to wind up mindless killing machines again?"

Angrily, Fred, flexed his hands, and his claws unsheathed. "And this is supposed to be betterrrrr?" he growled.

"For me it is. You're still killing machines - only now you're my killing machines. And it's better for you, since in these feline forms, you not only have your minds, but the savage cunning and killer instincts of jungle cats. Which is good, because you may have to do much killing before I'm done with you."

"Suppose we starrrt out with you!" Astra snarled, leaping forward with her claws and fangs bared...

Only to land right back where she started.

"Part of the spell," the woman laughed. "Not only must you obey me, you can never harm me, intentionally or otherwise. And, as you just saw, that ferocious desire for blood and battle now lies very close to the surface."

Fred roared in anger, but found he could do little else. "Who are you?" he spat. "And what can we possibly do that you can't do yourself?!?"

"My name is Anthris, though you both will call me 'mistress'. And as for your task - I have been trapped in this room for uncounted years, and it begins to chafe. There is an amulet I require - it is the only thing that can break this spell and free me. The two of you will retrieve it - no matter the cost."

"And wherrrre will we find this amulet?" Astra inquired.

1. "In the Temple of the Seven Stars, due east of here. It is surrounded by a dense and dangerous forest."
2. "It is in your home world, in the possession of one who calls himself Zerm the Unspeakable."
3. "There are many levels in this pyramid below this one. The amulet lies below the very last level."
4. "It is at the very top of the pyramid - but it is heavily guarded."
5. "It is somewhere in the great Rain Jungle far to the south."
6. "No one knows," she said, "Part of your task is to locate it with the clues in this scroll."
