The Far Side Of The Desert

"We must wait, oh friends. A system of justice is occuring which blocks our forward motion to our houses. In a little bit we shall move again.

Fred and Astra could hear the excited murmurs of the crowd.

Mendo vanished. "Something isn't right." Lord Fred said. "I'm going to check things out. Fred stood and pushed aside the fabric Mendo had came through. He grabbed one wall of the wagon and leaned out. He swung his upper body forward and was now facing forward. Past the horses a large group of people stood in a line. On the other side, dozens more stood. They were in a small city, filled with mudbrick housing, carpeted stands and many unfamilar aspects. From around a corner, came a group of men.

1. Dirty, ragged prisoners dragged wooden crosses under the watchful eyes of stern, armored gaurds.
2. Then men were fleeing a wall of water that seemed to follow the road!
3. It was a parade! Fred smiled as he saw the jesters.
4. In a dark corner, far from the eyes of the people on the parade, a man swung a knife at a woman. She ducked and slid into a cracked open door. The man followed. Seconds later, so did Fred.
