The Separation of Church and Skate

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 47118

Scene: a simple interview set with two chairs. As the lights go up, Scott and Josh enter from the side, and sit down:

"Good evening, and welcome to Breaking the Fourth Wall, the new addventure discussion program," Scott says. "I'm Scott Childers, with me as always is my co-host Josh Burbank. Hello, Josh!"
"Hello yourself, Scott," says Josh. "Tonight's topics will include the impending return of Horsehockey, and an update concerning Addventure's long awaited fourth game. We're just as surprised to bring you the news of actual progress!"
"It should be a good one, Josh," Scott says. "Our lead story tonight is the truth behind one of the more obscure, and frankly, one of the most one- dimensional characters around. Skip Hitler. Tonight, we have the truth about the man, the myth, the character created simply for the sake of using the name."
"Skip Hitler made his first appearance in Addventure's third game, and at the time, his origins were definitive. Skip was apparently a bumbling German politician from an alternate timeline who was somehow transported into our time. For a little more background on ol' Skip, here are pre- recorded comments from the guy who, for a lack of better terms, created him, NEQ's own Ben McClellan."

Videotaped commentary from Ben, seated in a small office, with a desk to his left:

"I took the name Skip Hitler from George Carlin's first book Brain Droppings. It came from a passage in an essay about names, and Carlin had an ancedote about how much easier World War II would've been for the Allies had they been fighting a guy named Skip Hitler. Believe me, this is not the lamest thing I've ever used for an excuse to create a new character, but it's pretty close. Anyway, if I remember correctly, Skip Hitler was a time lost and completely inept German dictator who was somehow teleported from his native dimension into the present day. I used to think Skip had potential to be more than just the 'Hey, that guy's got HITLER as his last name, omigod!' kind of reference, but it wasn't meant to be. There's only so much mileage you can get out of basing a stupid character primarily on his or her name, you know."

"Thank you, Ben!" Scott says. "Very interesting, as always."
"Wait, he stole jokes from George Carlin?" asks Josh.
"Weren't you listening, Josh?"

  1. So, anyway...
