Frederigo awoke with a gasp. Ever since the lordship had been passed on to him by his father, he had been haunted by the legacy of his clan. The D'Honaires were protectors of the realm, the ones who could be counted upon should their liege have need of a hero. It was a role he was thrust into most reluctantly.

Now, here he was on a strange beach, thirsty and starving.

He'd had better days, and this one was about to get decidably worse

For there, on the beach sand, was the previous occupant of the beach. All that was left of the lad (or lass, he reminded himself) was a bleached skeleton.

His attention turned to something curious about the skeleton.

  1. Strange symbols carved into the bones of the skeleton caught his eye.
  2. Something clutched in the hand of the skeleton gleamed in the sand.
  3. A tattered remnant of clothing upon the skeleton seemed odd.
