The man nodded. "Who's your chief?"

"I am," said Exotica, which was true in a way, as she was heir to the throne of Allaria. This would bring the people here to think of them as their equals. She decided she'd take this role rather than Astra, since she was more familiar with the Valinor's politics and culture. She held out her hand, which was important in this land as in hers as a gesture of trust because it meant, symbolically, that she did not have her hand on her weapon. Literally, the point was moot, of course, because Exotica had no weapon. Only Fred was armed, and there was no way he could stand a chance against the whole of the forces of even this ship.

1. The man nodded. "My name is Derez, and my chief is Niticir." He took her hand firmly.
2. The man pulled out a pistol-like weapon. "You're lying. You're the daughter of Emry, aren't you? You'll fetch a good ransom price for us."
