Winged Terror

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 46742

And then the Hellkites were swooping down out of a frozen sky. Cawing with malevolence and flapping their great black wings, one went straight for Stacy, who gasped. And then an arrow was lodged between the winged beast's eyes, and it shrieked in agony as it hit the ground and slid, kicking up dust, to land at Stacy's feet.

Link grinned at her as he nocked another arrow to his bow. The rest of the Hellkites were circling them like massive angry crows, as Fred cracked his knuckles and waited for them to get... just a little closer. He knew that punching a hole in one of their heads and pulling their ass end-backwards out of their mouths would be an easy and pleasurable diversion after all he had just undergone. And yet a part of him screamed that something was wrong, that after he had torn these beasts limb from limb and drunk of their blood he would no longer be able to control himself... and yet as the Hellkites came hurtling down, all five of them at once now, Fred could not control his savage, sadistic laughter.

With the twang of a bow another Hellkite hit the ground, twitching in its deaththroes, just one of its companions smashed into Link from behind, raking his back with its claws. The wiry-tough elf stepped sideways, batting at the Hellkite with his shield and turning to throw himself at Stacy just in time to knock her out of the way of another Hellkite's lunge. Fred meanwhile, busied himself with stopping a Hellkite's dive with his bare hands, punching the squirming beast a few times in the head until green cerebral matter spurted out of its ears, then adding insult to injury wrapped his legs and arms around it and body-slammed the creature into the cobblestoned ground of Victorian England.

"I'm sorry!" Scarlett said. "I'm not made for meelees such as this, dear Fred. I will find you sooner or later."

She whispered an incantation and seemed to melt away into the shadows. Fred hardly noticed, jumping on another Hellkite and biting down on it's earlobe until it shrieked in pain. It rose into the air, then seconds later came crashing back down, Fred rolling off to stand beside Link, who had buried his sword hilt-deep inside a fourth Hellkite's soft vulnerable belly. As the beast slipped off the sword and into its deaththroes, Link and Fred heard Stacy scream behind them.

They looked up to see the last surviving Hellkite shake with malicious laughter as it carried Stacy up into the sky. Link quickly fired another arrow, but the Hellkite rolled aside just in time and disappeared behind some buildings.

"No!!" Link cried.

Fred licked his lips as he watched the blood streaming down Link's back. And then with the wailing of sirens three police carriages converged around them, blocking both escape routes from the street.

"Halt right where you are!" came Constable Simpson's voice. "In the name of the Law! You're surrounded, fugitives! Give yourselves up or face destruction!"

  1. Fred and Link fight their way out of the police encirclement.
  2. Fred and Link surrender to the authorities.
  3. Fred and Link dive into a side door in the nearby house.
