"My name is - uh - Helena," Astra said. Astra was a highly unusual name.
If she had given it, then if Martinez had heard of the red-haired Princess
Astra he might have put two and two together and guessed her true
identity. "This is my friend, Fred," she went on, that being a commonplace
name and so not needing to be disguised.
"Pleased to meet you both," Martinez said. "So where are you from? You're not Hespaniards, or you would surely have heard of Gran Adah. Besides, your complexions are pale and your accents are strange." Fred wasn't used to having a female companion dominating the conversation. He supposed that it must be being a princess that made Astra so forward. But this time he managed to get in first. "We're from Malboncton," he said. "So what are you doing so far away from home, seemingly not even knowing where you are?" Fred and Astra were both silent for a moment, trying to come up with a plausible explanation that would satisfy this annoyingly inquisitive man. Then they spoke simultaneously. "We were kidnapped," Fred said. "A wizard's spell went wrong and sent us here," Astra offered. Martinez smiled. "So you don't want to tell me," he said. "Fair enough. Well, I have business that I should be about, so I'll bid you good day...
