You run straight into the desert for all you're worth, and the guard
shouts angrily for you to halt. A quick glance over your shoulder confirms
that he is pursuing you, and gaining steadily. There is no way you will be
able to lose him out in the open, but you spot a range of low hills in the
near distance; you angle toward them, hoping you can reach their shelter
before he catches up with you.
Breathing hard, you reach the first foothills and enter a shallow ravine between two of them. You can still hear the city guard behind you. Suddenly, you are startled to feel something soft under your feet; looking down, you see that the ravine is carpeted with a thick, umber moss that is nearly ankle deep. So intrigued are you by this discovery, you fail to notice the party of heavily armed warriors that is hiding in the ravine until you are in their midst.
