Returned to Life

Belboz the Necromancer, as he was known to the residents of the Shreken, or Minestus the Mighty, as he was referred to by himself, slowly focussed his eyes on the world. Leaning over him was the face of Astra, who had at first greatly excited, and then very nearly killed him. His first thought was, How am I alive? He felt a wave of conflicting and unwelcome emotions. Shame at being gulled by such an obvious trick. Anger at being humiliated before the strangers. But there was one terrible feeling that trumped the others at this moment, which he had never felt to this depth, and that was that of fear. This was no longer a sport. He felt that there was someone actively opposing his project now, and this his life was at stake. And now he knew, in a very tangible way, that he was mortal, even while he was on the edge of achieving great things. If Astra could nearly kill him, who knew what these strangers could do?

He lashed out, in the silent speech, at Astra Cisstyrgia, unaware that she was the referee, and not his late tormentor.

With as much power as he could muster, although he was still enfeebled, he delivered a crackling message to Astra C. In a harsh voice, he silently said, Stop! If you finish me off, I will make sure that everyone here suffers. I know now that you would gladly trade your life for mine, but I will not let you get off that easily, Princess. The referee doubled over in pain.

Then, after the first wave of despair and anger had passed, and he saw that the threat receded, he was aware that the woman bent over him was Astra Cisstyrgia.

Astra Cisstyrgia and Jenny Elf were at Belboz's side when this silent outburst took place. Fred and Ia'adoire were at Astra Transstrygia's side, wary of another burst of demonic fury. The others were either outside the cave, or somewhat removed from either combatant, stunned by what had just took place.

Fred saw the referee double over in pain, and saw Belboz sit up. He decided to

1. try to break up a possible fight between Astra C and Belboz.
2. stand by Astra T, and ensure that she stayed subdued.
